Tuesday
11/5/2024

Café Restaurant Dauphine, Amsterdam

15:00 - 19:00

What will a workday look like for healthcare professionals in five years? How does AI assist in daily tasks? What challenges do you encounter?

This Zorg2025 meeting will address conflicting interests and ethical dilemmas surrounding the use of AI and data in healthcare. To continue providing quality care in the future, the deployment of AI and other innovative technologies is essential.

Program

This edition begins with a brief presentation titled 'Caring for AI'—about how medical professionals collaborate with algorithms. It provides insight into the path towards 2030. Actress Margo Verhoeven will deliver this theatrical monologue.

The presentation is based on a large-scale, five-year study on the digitalization of healthcare conducted by lead researcher Roanne van Voorst. She is a future anthropologist and university lecturer affiliated with the University of Amsterdam and serves as the chair of the Dutch Future Society. In this capacity, she collaborates with doctors and nurses to consider the ethical dilemmas associated with the development and adoption of AI in hospitals.

The presentation 'Caring for AI' is based on research into the collaboration between humans and machines in healthcare. The future scenario outlines the cooperation between doctors, nurses, and algorithms in hospitals, highlighting both the positive and negative impacts on their daily work. It clearly illustrates how work practices in hospitals are changing. The collaboration between humans and machines sometimes unfolds in ways that are very different from expectations. Do we actually want this? What measures are necessary for an alternative scenario?

Following the performance, two speakers will reflect on the theater piece.

Sebastiaan Berendsen – Works at Deloitte on responsible AI from an organizational, ethical, and technical perspective. He is also pursuing a PhD at Vrije Universiteit, researching fairness and bias in AI and algorithms

Prof. dr. Corrette Ploem- is an expert in health law, privacy, and healthcare technology. She advises on medical research and personalized medicine. Her focus is on technological developments such as robotics and AI, which have a significant impact on the work of doctors

Moderator is Niel Oedit Doebé – Lid van Young in Board

After the discussion, there will be time for informal conversation and networking
