Medical Delta finances more than 25 PhD students and Postdocs from the scientific programs. In a portrait series, a number of them talk about their research and its possible impact on healthcare, but also about cooperation within Medical Delta.
Following a prehabilitation program promotes recovery after surgery or treatment. However, there are too few people and resources to provide customized support for patients. A consortium is working on a project to organize technology-assisted prehabilitation in the home environment of people with cancer. Read more.
Keyhole abdominal surgery includes the use of the so-called 'Veress needle'. In some cases, the needle may be pricked too deeply and affect underlying tissue. A consortium developed a prototype mechanism to prevent Veress needles from slipping through. Read more.
The SenseGlove is a glove that makes it possible to interact with objects in a Virtual Reality (VR) environment. People rehabilitating after a brain infarct or stroke can use the glove to safely practice their hand function. Read more.
The 'steerable punch' is a minimally invasive instrument for arthroscopic surgery that allows a surgeon to remove a torn meniscus in one continuous cutting session. Surge-on Medical, in collaboration with the Living Lab Medical Delta Instruments, developed the 'semi-detachable' version of the steerable punch into an initial 0-series production run. Read more.
In almost every OR, an air treatment system for each type of surgery purifies the air in the same way. Scientists from various disciplines are investigating in the Medical Delta Living Lab Research OR whether this can be done differently, better, and more efficiently. Read more.
