The LoaD project – Healthy Load in Knee Osteoarthritis

People with knee osteoarthritis are encouraged to keep moving. However, it is not known what joint load is optimal. The LoaD project, a collaboration between researchers from university hospitals, technical universities and universities of applied sciences, patient organizations, sports associations, and companies, aims to provide more clarity on this through research. The entire LoaD project will last 8 years and started in 2022.

The lead coordinator is Medical Delta professor Prof. Dr. Gerjo van Osch (Erasmus MC, TU Delft). Medical Delta is a partner in the collaboration and is part of the advisory board of the LoaD consortium. Medical Delta advises the consortium on the inclusion of new partners, provides access to its network, and supports the organization of round-table meetings, evaluations, and workshops.

The LoaD project is funded by the Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research (NWO) under the National Science Agenda. The project has received a grant of €8.8 million. An additional €1 million comes from co-funding by companies and social partners such as sports associations and a patient organization.
