The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) has elected 23 new members. One of the new members is Prof. Eline Slagboom (LUMC), Scientific Leader of the scientific program METABODELTA: Metabolomics for clinical advances in the Medical Delta. Prof. Pancras Hogendoorn (LUMC), member of the Supervisory Board of Medical Delta, has also become a member of the KNAW.
Slagboom is professor of molecular epidemiology. Over the past thirty years, Slagboom has left a unique mark on research into ageing, the KNAW writes in an explanation. Hogendoorn is Dean of Medicine at Leiden University, member of the Board of Directors of the LUMC and Professor of Pathology at Leiden University / LUMC.
Members of the KNAW are leading scientists from all disciplines and are chosen based on their scientific achievements. The Academy currently has approximately five hundred and fifty members. Membership is for life. The new Academy members will be installed on Monday 13 September.
Last year, Medical Delta professor Prof. Frans van der Helm joined as a KNAW member. The KNAW members also include the Medical Delta professors Prof. Ton van der Steen, Prof. Wiro Niessen, Prof. Jenny Dankelman and Prof. Dr. Andrea Evers.
