The Royal Holland Society of Sciences, the oldest "Learned Society" in the Netherlands, was founded as the Hollandsche Maatschappij der Wetenschappen in 1752, to promote science in the broadest sense. The KHMW aims to bridge the gap between science and society by issuing prize questions, awarding scientific achievements, and organizing lectures and conferences.
The predicate "Royal" was granted on the occasion of the Society's 250th anniversary in 2002.
