Collaboration Pieter van Foreest and Basalt on geriatric rehabilitation

Directors Petra de Jongh on behalf of Pieter van Foreest and Willem Wiegersma on behalf of Basalt signed a letter of intent this month for cooperation in the field of geriatric rehabilitation in a new to be established 'rehabilitation hub' in Delft.

Both Pieter van Foreest and Basalt are active partners within the Medical Delta network. Pieter van Foreest is one of the partners of the Medical Delta Living Lab Geriatric Rehabilitation@Home and Basalt cooperates within the Medical Delta Living Lab Rehabilitation Technology.

When elderly people in the South Holland region need to rehabilitate after an operation, trauma or disorder, they can go to Rehabilitation & Recovery of Pieter van Foreest. Here, experts work in the field of geriatric rehabilitation care. In a therapeutic environment, they work with the elderly client on the rehabilitation to be able to return to the home situation in a responsible manner.

In the future, these clients may also be able to visit a new clinic that is part of a 'rehabilitation hub'. Basalt, expertise center for rehabilitation from child to adult, hopes to realize this rehabilitation hub in Delft in 2027. The hub will consist of a clinic with 60 to 80 beds. Some of these can be used by Pieter van Foreest. In addition to a clinic, the newly built hub in the Junius neighborhood will have several outpatient clinics, treatment rooms, a swimming pool, a daycare center, a restaurant, an orthopedic shoe repair shop and parking facilities. The center will also have space for healthcare providers who provide primary care.

Exploring collaboration

Pieter van Foreest and Basalt are going to explore what exactly the cooperation within the hub could look like. Possibly clients of Pieter van Foreest can use the facilities and short lines of communication with Basalt during their rehabilitation in the hub. Also, both organizations can strengthen each other from their own expertise, which promotes the recovery of the clients. By offering geriatric care in Basalt's rehabilitation hub, 'the right care in the right place' can be realized. The exploration will take further shape in 2023.
