Erasmus MC opens research and innovation center for women-specific healthcare

Friday, March 7, 2025

Much of healthcare is designed with men in mind, while women's bodies respond differently to illness and conditions. The new Netherlands Women's Health Research & Innovation Center focuses specifically on healthcare for women. Today, the day before International Women's Day, the center is officially opening at Erasmus MC.

More research into healthcare specifically aimed at women is urgently needed; the necessity for this resonates strongly with women. The opening is expected to receive significant media attention.

One of the initiators of the Netherlands Women's Health Research & Innovation Center is internist Dr. Jeanine Roeters van Lennep. She is involved as a theme leader in the Healthy Society program, in which Medical Delta participates. Recently, the project Meno-pressure personalized started within Healthy Society, of which she is one of the project leaders. This project specifically targets peri- and postmenopausal women, helping them lower their blood pressure.
