Dr. Marije Holstege was installed this month as special professor in Geriatric Rehabilitation at Inholland University of Applied Sciences. Schouwburg Het Park in Hoorn was chosen as the location for her inaugural lecture: right in the catchment area of Omring, the healthcare organization that established the special professorship in Geriatric Rehabilitation at Inholland University of Applied Sciences.
Dr. Marije Holstege is one of the living lab leaders of the Medical Delta Living Lab Geriatric Rehabilitation@Home.
In a collaborative effort, leaders from the two collaborating organizations installed Holstege as the newly appointed special professor. Her passionate plea for smarter collaboration in geriatric rehabilitation was met with thunderous applause.
One-third of geriatric rehabilitation patients do not return to their previous level of functioning after hospitalization. Hence, there is room for improvement in the treatment practice. With her special professorship, Holstege aims to address this issue and make treatments more enjoyable and pleasant, for example, by using visual scan training with a virtual museum. Geriatric rehabilitation must also become smarter to address the increasing aging population and the critical shortage of personnel.
A comprehensive report on her inaugural lecture can be found on the news page of Inholland University of Applied Sciences.
