The journey from science to practice is bumpy for health innovations, as was evident. “But don’t let that stop you: ‘actions speak louder than words,’” Maarten Timmers of Juvoly told the attendees on the 23rd floor of the Millennium Tower in Rotterdam. This approach seems to be paying off. Recently, Juvoly won the National Health Innovation Award for their AI solution for primary care providers.
Think Outside Your Bubble
Input from various angles is crucial, as highlighted by the presentation from XS Innovations, who devised a smart solution for (hemo)dialysis and recently won the Venture Challenge. “Think outside your bubble,” advised Nick White. “And involve other relevant disciplines in the development.” This kind of bridge-building is what Romion Health does daily. Stephan Romeijn explained how the consultancy helps healthcare organizations integrate AI into everyday practice.
New Markets
Ancora Health has outgrown the startup phase. After a panel discussion and a short break, Rahul Gannamani continued the symposium with a presentation on how the company found new markets during the COVID-19 period: employers became more attentive to their employees' health, to which Ancora provided a fitting response. “Build your innovation yourself, but collaborate closely with established parties and scientists,” Gannamani advised.
A fertile ground for the development of promising health innovations is top clinical hospitals. They are united in the network organization STZ (Cooperating Top Clinical Hospitals). “The implementation of innovation processes varies per hospital,” said Danique Roodnat. However, top clinical hospitals are united in their mission to make hospital care future-proof with the help of innovation, as her presentation showed.
The perspectives of the speakers were concluded with a networking event that offered a beautiful view over Rotterdam from the 23rd floor.
