The Healthy Society Program has appointed Prof. Dr. Marieke Adriaanse (Leiden University, LUMC) as its strategic representative.
In her role within the Healthy Society Program, Adriaanse is committed to a proactive approach that centers health and healthy behavior, while she further promotes the shared vision of Prof. Dr. Andrea Evers. As a Recognition and Appreciation ambassador and advocate for Open Science, Marieke is strongly committed to making sure transdisciplinary collaboration and societal impact are valued.
The Healthy Society Program is a collaboration between Leiden-Delft-Erasmus Universities, the Province of Zuid-Holland, and Medical Delta to promote a healthy society. This joint force of interdisciplinary scientific knowledge in the province of Zuid-Holland aims to improve health and well-being across all segments of the population and reduce health inequalities. The program stimulates interdisciplinary scientific research and education in collaboration with citizens, knowledge institutions, healthcare organizations, municipalities, and other societal partners to help achieve this. By keeping everyone healthy for a longer period of time and giving them control over this in their own living environment, the Healthy Society Program aims to contribute to accessible and affordable healthcare.
Marieke Adriaanse works at Leiden University - the school’s Faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences and LUMC, where she focuses on behavioral interventions in public health. Within the interdisciplinary Health Campus The Hague, she researches how residents and patients can be supported in developing healthier habits and how behavioral interventions can help healthcare professionals improve their practices. She especially focuses on health disparities, prevention, and sustainable change. In her role within the Healthy Society Program, Adriaanse strives for a proactive approach that prioritizes health and healthy behavior, further advancing Andrea Evers' shared vision. As a Recognition and Appreciation ambassador and Open Science advocate, she strives to value transdisciplinary collaboration and societal impact as well.
"The program's ambitions—working towards a resilient society in which everyone can live as healthily as possible, mentally, physically, and socially—align seamlessly with my own motivations and the research my team and I are conducting. I look forward to applying our acquired knowledge and experience to the benefit of this wonderful program," says Adriaanse. "I look forward to immersing myself in the ongoing themes and projects in the coming period, and to continuing to build a successful and impactful program together with the theme leaders, steering committee, program management, and all partners."
