Preview of the Medical Delta Conference on 2 November

Nine professors will be officially inaugurated as 'Medical Delta Professors' at the same time during a festive meeting on Tuesday 2 November in the auditorium of the TU Delft. The inauguration is part of the Medical Delta Conference that will take place from 15.00 to 18.00.

During the meeting, NWO chairman Prof. Dr. Marcel Levi will give a lecture and there will be a panel discussion on care innovation led by Astrid Joosten. At the information market and during the networking drinks, scientists, companies, care organizations and governments who work together in the field of health and technology will meet each other.

"Healthcare is under pressure and that will only increase in the coming years. Technological innovations can play an important role in the necessary care transition and support of care professionals, but those innovations must be developed and applied in close collaboration," says Medical Delta chairman Prof. Dr. Frank Willem Jansen. "That is why 'MedTech Solutions for a Healthier Tomorrow' has been chosen as the theme of the conference. During the panel discussion, we will discuss how science, healthcare practice and industry can help each other further, because that is essential. And at the information market and during the networking drinks, experiences can be exchanged. I am glad this is possible again, because the best ideas and collaborations are born out of chance meetings."

Professors with dual appointments

To underline the interdisciplinary cooperation that the Medical Delta stands for, professors will be appointed for the third time in the history of Medical Delta. This time, nine professors will receive the designation, officially combining at least two appointments at Leiden University, LUMC, TU Delft, Erasmus University and/or Erasmus MC.

The nine professors have each earned their spurs in research at the cutting edge of health and technology. For example, they use new techniques to determine the cause of cardiac arrhythmia or they investigate how cartilage can be repaired with technology. During the inauguration, they will present their research and answer questions from young scientists. The official inauguration is the ratification of their appointment as Medical Delta Professors last year.
