Results 2019-2024 program: 'Imaging and Big Data for life'

Monday, October 21, 2024

With seventeen new programs and eight new living labs, the Medical Delta 2024-2028 programming officially started this month. Many scientific programs and living labs from the 2019-2024 programming will continue. Nevertheless, it is a good opportunity to look back at the results achieved so far.

'Technological solutions for sustainable healthcare' was the promise of our 2019-2024 scientific program. The programs and living labs established during this period focus on several themes. One of these themes is 'Imaging and Big Data for life.' The aim of the three scientific programs within this theme was to make earlier and more precise diagnoses using the latest imaging techniques

Early diagnoses with imaging technology

Imaging techniques are among the most promising technologies available to improve diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment choices.

A great result from Medical Delta Diagnostics 3.0: Dementia and Stroke is the Neuro4Neuro project, which explored the possibilities for segmenting neural pathways in 3D. This allows for a more targeted search for the reduction of 'white matter' in the brain—an indicator of (early) dementia.

In a study from Medical Delta Cancer Diagnostics 3.0, a comparison was made between tumor diagnostics based on MRI images and on surgically obtained tumor tissue. By establishing a connection between MRI images and pathological information, important new insights and possibilities emerged for future research into brain tumors.

A new form of ultrasound can provide a detailed image of blood flow in the heart. Blood flow in the brain can now be measured through the skull. Medical Delta UltraHB: Ultrafast ultrasound for the heart and brain conducted research into this.

Curious about the interim results? They are summarized in clear factsheets on this page.

Programs 2024-2028

The results and collaborations from the 2019-2024 programming form the foundation for new programs and living labs. An overview of this can be found here.
