Erasmus MC and the City of Rotterdam are both investing two million euros to start the so-called ’Smart Health Tech Campus’, a center for medical technology, early next year. Erasmus MC is freeing up 10,000 square meters in its own complex to welcome medical innovative companies and knowledge centers.
Ultimately, the intention is for the campus to have its own site on the spot where the building of the old Dijkzigt hospital still stands today. It is expected that it will take another five years before construction can take place, after which TU Delft and Erasmus University will also join.
In the coming years, TU Delft, Erasmus MC and Erasmus University want to further intensify and shape their cooperation. Health & Technology is one of the spearheads of this program, also known as ‘convergence’. The convergence program has other components in which Leiden University and LUMC also participate.
“The development of a physical campus on the south axis of Medical Delta is a good thing. It offers our scientific programs ample opportunities to mature, and our clinicians and engineers opportunities to thrive in collaboration with medically innovative companies,” said Gertine van der Vliet, director of Medical Delta.
