Medical Delta Living Lab 'Better in, better out & beyond'

When someone with cancer begins a treatment journey, it pays off for the patient to be as healthy as possible before, during, and after the process. This promotes recovery and helps people return to their daily activities more quickly after their treatment.

The Medical Delta Living Lab 'Better in, better out & beyond' investigates the optimal health support needed at all stages of the treatment journey for the individual patient.

Integration of treatment pathway and health program

A cancer treatment journey is intensive and impactful. Ideally, a health support program should be integrated into this process. While this sounds logical, it requires extensive coordination, new partnerships, and agreements between organizations. For instance, care pathways may need to be adjusted, or technological innovations may need to be implemented that do not yet fit within the care pathway. Additionally, not everyone requires the same level of support at the same time during treatment: some patients may be more capable and willing to take on responsibilities than others. Customization is essential.

The Medical Delta Living Lab 'Better in, better out & beyond' seeks opportunities to integrate treatment pathways and health support pathways into a single treatment plan, customized as much as possible based on the wishes and needs of the individual patient.

Co-creation with practice partners

The living lab investigates the implementation of personalized lifestyle programs to improve physical and mental well-being during the treatment journey—before surgery, during therapy, and after the active treatment phase. It also explores how technological innovations can support these efforts.

This is done in co-creation with healthcare practices and companies, involving (healthcare) professionals, teacher-researchers, and students from various programs and institutions.

Goals

  • Developing and implementing tools that enable healthcare providers to offer a personalized support plan to people with cancer.
  • Creating tailored care pathways for individuals with cancer and co-designing systemic healthcare transformation to ensure that the various care lines are interconnected and that disciplines collaborate effectively.
  • Developing and implementing technological applications for people with cancer to simplify collaboration between disciplines and care lines, and to promote self-management among individuals with cancer.

This living lab stems from the collaboration within the Medical Delta Living Lab Better In Better Out
