Medical Delta Living Lab 'Changemakers for sustainable healthcare'

Climate change is causing health damage worldwide, leading to increased demand for care and further pressure on healthcare systems. At the same time, this healthcare sector is responsible for significant CO2 emissions. This urgent problem compels the healthcare sector to adapt to new challenges and priorities. Healthcare professionals often play a key role in this, often unconsciously. They often lack insight into the effectiveness of specific measures and the role that technology can play in this.

The ambition of the Medical Delta Living Lab 'Changemakers for sustainable healthcare' is to position (future) healthcare and welfare professionals as change-makers who play a leading role in promoting the health and well-being of themselves and the people they care for in the face of climate change.

Leading role for healthcare professionals

The Medical Delta Living Lab 'Changemakers for sustainable healthcare' focuses on practical solutions for the sustainability of the healthcare sector and on strengthening the knowledge base for future-oriented care. Healthcare and welfare professionals are the change-makers in this process: the living lab helps them take on a leading role.

Testing in hospitals and neighborhoods

The Medical Delta Living Lab 'Changemakers for sustainable healthcare' develops and tests sustainable and climate-adaptive interventions in co-creation with all relevant stakeholders in a 'real-life environment': in hospitals and neighborhoods. Technology is an important tool for how healthcare can be made more sustainable.

The living lab aims to share insights on how a resilient and sustainable healthcare system can be established, where climate-adaptive measures and technology are optimally utilized. The living lab focuses on care for vulnerable populations, as the health effects are most pronounced in these groups.

Medical Delta Living Lab 'Changemakers for sustainable healthcare' creates an environment in which various parties can co-create, gain understanding of, and gain control over the complex climate issue, and where they can experiment with solutions.

Goals

The Medical Delta Living Lab 'Changemakers for sustainable healthcare' has two main goals:

  • Reducing health risks due to climate change among vulnerable groups.
  • Organizing healthcare in a future-oriented and climate-adaptive manner
