Medical Delta Living Lab TIPIZ: Technology implementation with positive impact on care

Dozens of technological applications for healthcare have proven effective. They reduce workload, save costs, or make a noticeable difference for clients and their families. However, large-scale implementation and scaling of healthcare technology lag behind expectations. The Medical Delta Living Lab TIPIZ: Technological implementation with positive mpact on care aims to increase the positive impact of healthcare technology.

The use of a smart medication dispenser has demonstrable benefits for healthcare personnel and clients within a specific healthcare domain. How can this be applied in other domains as well? And what is the value of home monitoring, and how can it help implement preventive lifestyle interventions?

These are examples of concrete questions that the Medical Delta Living Lab TIPIZ aims to address. The living lab does this by building a network organization in the regions of Zuid- and Noord-Holland and helping healthcare organizations implement technology from there.

This is done according to a so-called 'hub and spoke model': at the heart of the living lab (hub), knowledge is captured for the valuation, implementation, and scaling of healthcare technology. For the application of healthcare technology in a specific context, various routes (spokes) are developed in collaboration with lecturers and healthcare organizations.

Concrete and applicable tools for implementation of healthcare technology

The living lab begins with an exploration of the current situation regarding the use of healthcare technology. Successful methodologies, technologies, and care pathways are compiled into a toolbox. Together with healthcare institutions, relevant practical questions are investigated, and the toolbox is utilized, which is continuously evaluated and adjusted.

The living lab initially focuses on long-term care (psychogeriatric and somatic), rehabilitation care (outpatient and inpatient), and primary care and home care. Expansion into the welfare domain is being explored with current and future partners.

Medical Delta Living Lab TIPIZ aims to become the ecosystem in the regions of South and North Holland that assists healthcare organizations in the deployment and sustainable implementation of (existing) healthcare technology to make a positive impact on healthcare.

Goals

The main goal of the living lab is to increase the positive impact of healthcare technology, making a noticeable difference for clients, their families, and healthcare professionals. Additionally, the living lab focuses on the valuation of healthcare technology, implementation, and scaling by:

  • conducting value-based research in connection with national initiatives, such as digizo.nu and the flywheel coalition;
  • creating new, technology-supported care pathways, implementing them, and scaling them;
  • supporting healthcare technology companies by connecting them with other initiatives in the Netherlands and beyond;
  • creating a learning environment for students and professionals, among other things, by jointly carrying out projects in the areas of value determination, implementation, and scaling.
