Lots of exercises slow down disease progression in people with Parkinson's, but in doing so, there is a chance that the body will 'freeze' for some time while walking. Among other things, Cue2Walk developed a smart wearable in the Medical Delta Living Lab Rehabilitation Technology that helps when such a 'freeze of gait' occurs. Read more.
For effective treatment of impaired arm function, proper diagnosis of the movement problem is important. A consortium is developing a diagnostic robot that will eventually allow objective and scientifically validated measurements of arm function. Read more.
The Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis was the first hospital in the world to test real-time tracking of surgical instruments using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips during the surgical procedure. The tests took place in the Medical Delta Research Hospital. With the test results, the use of RFID chips in operating rooms could be further developed by the company Van Straten Medical. Read more.
SLAM Ortho is developing sensor technology for drills. This technology makes it possible for surgeons to use a laser to drill the correct screw length into bones much more accurately. Working closely with the Reinier de Graaf Gasthuis and Medical Delta Living Lab OnderzoeksOK, SLAM Ortho is testing the technology, its use, and the processes surrounding it. Read more.
Scientists from the Medical Delta Cardiac Arrhythmia Lab scientific program applied so-called "mapping techniques" for measurements of conduction disturbances of the heart in very young children. This provided the first detailed mapping of electrical conduction in children's hearts. Read more.
The low-friction surgical grasper is an instrument that aims to give surgeons good haptic feedback during minimally invasive surgery. A consortium of companies and knowledge institutions initiated a development project in the Living Lab Medical Delta Instruments. Read more.
