The MedTech-Based Entrepreneurship minor provides a foundation for students who would like to apply their technical knowledge and skills within a medical context. It is also suitable for students who are interested in learning about technology-based entrepreneurship. The core business courses are in common with the other entrepreneurship minors and can be applied outside the healthcare sector.
Students will benefit from working in multidisciplinary teams. For example, a medic from Leiden could work with an engineer from Delft and a management student from Erasmus. No prior experience of working in the healthcare or MedTech sector is therefore required.
The minor is offered by the Delft Centre for Entrepreneurship (DCE) and lecturers (with practical experience) from the faculties of TPM, IDE and ME. The knowledge and skills are applied in a project through an integration module. Many teams opt for a startup approach. The integration project offers many tools for a well-founded approach to such a process (for example, the 'Lean Startup').
After completing the minor, you will have basic knowledge of entrepreneurship and understanding of the innovation process within a medical context, the design process for the medical user, the requirements for certification and standardisation of medical products, the financial system of healthcare and a company, the economics and management of healthcare, and marketing & sales for a medical product.
MedTech continues to be a relevant high growth, high impact sector. The world needs an untold number of healthcare solutions at many levels and markets for the foreseeable future. Plus, with the CV19 burden, other areas of medicine must become an order of magnitude more efficient. Think about sharing medical records, authentication of data, the potential of online and AI medical consultations
The courses in this minor aim to give you a good idea of the specific aspects of technology-based entrepreneurship. Each study highlights one or more aspects of "technopreneurship" in health care. The complete package of subjects covers the most critical aspects of entrepreneurship. It draws from the TU wide range of entrepreneurship-oriented disciplines.
